in tank fuel pump
Hey all,
from y'alls experience, what is be the best way to replace the in tank fuel pump on a square body, drop the tank, or pull the bed ? I have a fuel pump that needs replacing, if and when i do, i will replace both pumps at the same time. Just curious as the which method is easier, or less of a hassle. Thanks |

Well question, what year motor do you have in truck. Have you had the bed off in the last year or so. For 73-86 pump on the motor. 87 was the first year in the tank. Before taking the off the bed, take off ground's filler neck screws un- plug harness lube all bed bolts.

Pull the bed. Get 3 friends to help lift it off.

2nd on the pull the bed. Will also make it easy to replace all the rubber lines, clean the grounds and such.
While the bed is off, consider replacing that rear brake hose. As well as other things that are easier replaced while looking down vs looking up. |

If it is easier to drop the tanks, i will do that. From the looks of the sending unit to the cab placement, looks like a carnival puzzle to remove the sending unit / in tank pump with the bed off. |

If you're going to take the tank out. You have to take off ground's filler neck screws disconnect fuel lines vent line un- plug harness lube all strap bolts. The shields bolts if you have them. lube well before and when work on them. (** most importin run the truck tank EMPTY because its ***** with 1/4 or more fuel in it. Be ready to buy new traps hoses and insulators. Most times at this age you need all combo of them once worked on. Good luck on the job.

Seeing as how you are in texas, pulling the bed is going to make the overall job easier--as mentioned, getting to the lines. Here in the rustbelt, pull the tank because those bed bolts ain't going to cooperate at all, and you just suffer through wrestling the hoses and wires if you don't want to cut & splice.

what is the advantage / disadvantage of using the plastic clamp vs metal clamps in the in tank electric pump? This is the deplhi FE0114, 60psi pump. I have 12psi at the TBI. I installed metal clamps for my install |
