Transfer case problem

2001 Silverado 1500 auto. NP 246 I pulled transfer case due to the pump rub pin hole ,new rear half and case saver plate . Also replaced inner front axle seal’s and was planing to do front tie rods. Ran to store and came back and put in 4 hi went to turn corner and it acted like it was locked up pulled in a big parking lot sand sure as sheet it was looking up very hard to turn. What the hell did I mess up sure thought it went back together right. Goes good I a straight line evidently I messed up somewhere

Driving on pavement in 4wd is a big no no. It's a good way to blow up the TC.

Re: Transfer case problem

Pull the 4wd actuator plug off and remove the actuator.

Connect the actuator to the plug and test that it moves in and out to push in the engagement rod in 4wd.

With the actuator out, push the internal rod in and make sure it springs back.

Spin one front wheel and see is the diff itself is locked up without the actuator in place. If it is the front diff has an issue.

If all that seems good, move to the transfer case and manually select 2wd using the control spud. You should now be able to rotate the front driveshaft. If you cant, pull the transfer case and redo the repairs.

What fluid did you put in the front diff?
What fluid did you put in the transfer case?

Re: Transfer case problem

The NV246 uses the blue Autotrac II fluid.

GM # 88900402 / AC Delco 10-4017, 1QT bottle, Auto Trak II Transfer Case Fluid.

Folks call it Smurf Blood... it's blue.

If you use the wrong stuff it'll make the clutches in the transfer case angry.
