Great stuff! That’s the era of equipment we were working with when I was helping a buddy out just a few years back. I’ll have to dig up a pic or two. Those guys would be blown away at the scale of grain operations these days!

Great video! I loved seeing the highly equipped Longhorn and the early Squarebody earning their keep. The operator was sure a Chevrolet fan.
I never knew there were so many songs about harvesting wheat/combining. $23,000 for a new combine! I wonder how they got some of those shots inside the cabs with the camera equipment of the day. It was a well-done production on the whole. Brings back many fond memories of helping my father-in-law with harvest. It's unbelievable how stressful it all is. especially dealing with the weather, protein/quality deductions at sale time, breakdowns and market conditions. He was a very family/small-time operation and only hired custom combiners on a couple of occasions when his combine suffered a major breakdown. I never graduated to running a combine, but I did do a fair amount of grain hauling/augering. It was a sad day when he retired and had his auction. |

At 3:20 is that a radio telephone? A rare and very expensive item if so. Something only big oilmen and ranchers would put down money for IIRC

That could be a CB Radio. I had one back in the day. It was easier to hear with a headset.

Floor shift tilt column. Those trucks are probably still running somewhere.
