Brake pedal return spring

Has anyone had the return spring on the brake pedal break? Trying to find a new one isn't easy.

That spring was missing on my two trucks when I first got them, so I'm assuming they broke.

As I understand it, there are two types. A mild one that pulls the Clutch Pedal back to the firewall. Present on my '68 C/10 Stepside [2WD], and a Heavy Duty Spring like on my '71 GMC Jimmy K/1500 [4WD]. The HD spring is connected under the dash and pulls vertically.
A few years ago a member warned against pulling this spring without proper knowledge -- he had broken a finger doing it wrong.
I never needed to mess with mine, so I offer no advice on installing or removing it.
Only one spring to a truck. I don't think any trucks got both, but I may be wrong.

I recently purchased a 1972 C-30 157" wb dump truck. Sitting for years but runs instantly on a quarter turn starting. Anyways I had to drive it home about 30 miles and brake pedal would not return and PO said they needed to be bled, ok. I assume it is internally collapsed soft lines, but this thread got me searching for springs and there is one for each pedal. I found an image online and also found both springs on my C-30. Last picture is an original assembly found online.

I'm embarassed to admit, my return spring on my brake pedal has also broken. I'll need to replace it as well. Last time I looked, LMC sold the spring.

The Truck Shop has multiple options for the clutch and brake return spring. Not familiar with what the differences might be. Here’s pics of the springs in place on my ‘70 C10 307/3spd

Halfbrit, the top pic with the blue spring is like mine. The broken spring IS blue! I have tried EVERYTHING to get the new spring reattached, which was sourced from Classic Parts of America, but is about 1/2" shorter than the original, making it DAMNED HARD to reattach to the original point near the firewall. And that is the ONLY way it can be done under the dash. I tried to remove the brake pedal, but the pivot shaft would only come out about 3/4 of the way.

Yeah, I determined that the best way for me, laying on my back, in the floorboard, under the dash was to use a long, thin-blade screwdriver to run through the loop closest to the firewall (the ONLY way to do it) and sticking it into the attaching point was the best way, I did this probably 50 times. Every time the spring, which is VERY strong, let go, I realized that if I stuck my hand up there, I could EASILY break some fingers.....

These spring removal tools are a lifesaver (or at least a finger saver) in most situations.
