Ebrake - Parking Brake Install 14 Bolt Axle

Just wanted to post a review and installation notes for my Ebrake - Parking Brake kit I got from LugNut4x4.

I've had a 14 bolt in the rear for 5 years now and finally got the time to add some needed with a functional rear ebrake.

Instructions come with the kit and are pretty detailed. One thing to add, if the nut isn't tightened on the caliper ebrake lever, you stand the chance of the lever bolt retracting back in the caliper. This allows air in and brake fluid out of the caliper. You'll have to bleed the caliper again, annoying but not a game ender.

Install went really well, the kit matched up to the 14 bolt and 71 K10 stock ebrake fittings, cables, etc.

I flipped and swapped the calipers, since I go off roading on the Rubicon Trail and I don't want to hit boulders, rocks, etc. with the calipers. This meant I had to bleed the calipers at the 7'clock position instead of the 1'clock where they are now. I just put them on the rotor, supported them with a milk crate, bled and moved 'em back to 7' after bleeding.

Also I ran the cables in from the opposite direction for easier installation and maintenance. I originally tried aluminum ferrules-stops-ends and even with a hydraulic crimping tool they would not hold. The Doorman or Napa (same part) 1/8 cable stops did the trick and held no problem.

All in all I would say this was a really good, seamless kit. The only items I added were (2) 7/16-20 fine nylock nuts for the caliper levers and a second set of cable stop ends for peace of mind.

I found a balance between the ebrake completely disengaged and holding the truck in drive on the flat @ (6) clicks on the ebrake pedal. Personal preference on this one, but it's best not to smoke new pads!

Very Interesting setup.

I'm subbed for the info.

I bought some stamped brackets years ago.

I also have some Cadillac Eldorado calipers that I was going to use for cores.

I decided to run the drum brakes cause they last forever in my application.

I had been wanting to get my e-brake back for a while now, but the cables and brackets always seemed like a guessing game and a lot of fabrication.

The LugNut4x4 kit came with laser cut improved brackets brackets, the calipers and nice cables that fit the bill. They also sell the components, in case you have some but not all the parts.

Now that I'm a little older, the safety aspect of an ebrake finally got to me. If anyone has questions, feel free.
