57 3200 seat options
 
Hey guys, short story long I’m pretty versed in the 67-72’s but I don’t know a damned thing about anything pre 67.

I met an older couple at a show, they’ve got a 57 3200 series they are trying to get back together so they can drive it. I get the idea that they don’t have high expectations, trucks been in their garage for years, they are at retirement age and I think the old guy just wants a seat so he can enjoy his truck, I get the vibes that they have more time then money at this stage in life, they drive a couple hundred miles and we’re burnt on one.

I’m really curious if any other gens will “bolt” in or are close enough that I could make them some brackets to get them going. Looking for any ideas you guys have that are half close and budget friendly. I’ve found a “60’s” seat on marketplace (looks like it’s out of a 65 ish) it’s pre 67-72.

I know the 88-98’s fit half decent in the 67-72’s.

The 88 to 98’s are easy to install.
IIRC I only needed to drill a couple holes to mount the one I used in my 56.

88-98 seems to fit pretty well and the headrests come off if they are tall and need the seat to go back all the way. a high back seat doesn't fit well because the rear of the cab slopes forward so the headrests bang on the rear wall/window as they are pushed back further. some of these 88-98 years are 60-40 and some are 40-60. there are other variations for pull down arm rests etc. best to do a walk through of the loacal picknpull and see what you can find for a good donor. there are those who have used a third row seat from a suburban or and astro van but that will take some time ti build a seat base frame and then the seats are not going to fold forward or have any seat back angle change available. they will usually be in pretty good shape though

I run a F100 Seat in mine (56 3200) . My excuse for a ford seat in a chevy was well its seeing my backside and enjoying my gas.

Most important thing is take a ruler and measure. I found that some seats just were to long by a inch. Also note that a lot of the seats in newer gens are wider and will fit just door to door no spacing. agree with the guys on removing head rest.

True words and advice right there. take your notes along and a good tape measure.

I've got an 89 60/40 split bench Chevy truck seat in my 71 and while more work to put in allows the passenger seat to be all the way back and the driver can move what amounts to a truck bucket seat where ever they need it.

It some GM heritage center vehicle info kit year to year searching but this diagram from 58 shows that a stock seat is 56 inches wide. It also shows that the cushion height at 14-1/2 at the front is the same as Stock AD trucks.

Car seats don't work well in AD or TF trucks for the most part because the seat backs usually lean back too far.

If you are fitting a seat, set it and any column adjustments at the middle of the various travel ranges and then block up seat up to match these dimensions.
you will probably be close to your final dimensions for seat mounts. If you are starting with a seat from a truck with a flat floor you may well end up just bolting the rails to the floor.

Car seats set too low in a TF or AD cab will run out of leg room, the cabs are designed around an upright sitting position.

I know some people object to the look of high back buckets, or even worse ones with integral belts. I run a pair of early 2000s sierra buckets with power bases and integral belts in my '52. Just throw them on the floor and bolt them down through some reinforcement plates. Done. And for me comfortable. The matching center console will NOT fit in an AD unless you want the wheel centered on your right shoulder and your left shoulder tight to the door.
