Clutch issues 65 C10

Hi All, I noticed over the weekend when releasing the clutch 65 C10 (3 on the tree) I hear a short squeal sound as clutch fully engages. I'm thinking possible throw out bearing. That being said. A few years ago the 230 inline 6 cyl was swapped for small block 327. I don't recall the guy who swapped touching clutch at all. Just bolted up to original bell housing. So... how do I tell if it is still a 10" clutch? Can I use either 10" or 11" no issues? I'm thinking as it looks like rear main seal may be weeping as there is oil droplets on the bell housing. That I might just swap clutch.. TO bearing..resurface flywheel..rear seal.. but want to have all parts in hand before pulling apart. There is less than 1000 miles on the truck since the 327 was rebuilt and installed as I have been too busy to run it much. Thanks!

I don't think there is a way to tell clutch size without removing the tranny. How old is the clutch?

If it were me i would order the throw-out bearing and rear main seal and then pull the trans. That way if the clutch looks good you can move ahead. If the clutch looks bad you will know which one to order.

I imagine you would have noted a line item on your bill for a new clutch if one had been installed... Unless you found the most altruistic shop in the nation that will probably be out of business soon from giving away free clutches!

In my experience, squeaking on engagement is usually a sign your clutch is wearing and squeaking at the friction point when pushing in or letting off the clutch pedal is a sign of the throw out bearing starting to go with the seal having been compromised. Any guess how many miles are on your clutch assuming it has not been replaced?

I have no idea on clutch age as it was in the truck when I bought it 15 yrs ago. The gentleman who installed the 327 told me today he used the flywheel off the old 230 inline 6 to save money on the install and it looked good enough to save a clutch then but did note there was some wear. So.. I asked him to just get ready to do a rebuild for me once I get all parts. Also since he used the old flywheel it should be a 10" clutch so make it easy to order.

Sounds like pilot bearing to me. Throwout bearing would squeal entire time clutch is disengaged.
