Today would have been the day...

Today would have been my first day of retirement if GM had not paid me to go away early.

I turn 65 in a week. I went on Medicare as of today (first day of your birthday month). Yesterday would have been 40 years and 3 months with GM. I miss the people, enjoyed most of my jobs, and would not go back into the auto industry unless they paid me a LOT of money.

Still have my dad's 1980 GMC that started my square addiction, quietly rusting in the field. But I have time to get to some of those projects now, and I'm pretty sure I have almost every part to build it and the one in the barn. I think I counted 11 straight 6's the other day...

You guys have been my friends, helpers and entertainment for several years now. While I don't post a lot, I read all the threads in several of the forums, and appreciate all the knowledge you so generously share. :gmc2:

Thanks!

Happy day for you. :metal:

I took a buy-out from an auto manufacturing plant also.

I definitely do not want anything to do with a Production type job anymore.

Any pictures of your 80 GMC?

See if this works…

It is hard to see in the tree, but there is an 8x12 shed behind it full of parts. Plus my other 2 trucks, a couple spare frames, 11 straight sixes, etc etc. This was supposed to be cleaned up this summer but the torn up knee wiped that out. Ah well, time is infinite in retirement…. If only I had a heated shop.

Unlikely as this was wrecked in the late 80’s, bad enough they wanted to total it. I will look next time I am out there.
