Voltage Regulator
 
I have a 71 c10 and ls swap the engine. I put an all American billet front runner on it with a self exciter alternator on it. What do I do with the voltage regulator wires. ( Blue, White, Red, and Brown)

The easy thing to do is get an American Autowire internal regulator conversion harness that just plugs in. Summit racing has them.

The other thing is to research the conversion from a 10DI to a 10SI alternator for the wiring and make jumpers.

I THINK (research, don’t believe me….) that you jumper the two inner connectors and two outer connectors on the external regulator plug.

I just cut the plug out of my harness and soldered the wires together instead of keeping the jumpers long term, and covered with heat shrink then taped the harness back up like at the fac-tree.

I believe a "self exciter alternator" is just a one wire alternator. One wire to the battery. No adapters or bypass needed. The original connections would be capped off or wiring removed. Not a fan myself, but run what you have.
Edit- The battery gauge will no longer work. You can replace the stock one with a volt gauge https://www.summitracing.com/parts/aww-510871 and wire it to where you want. Would suggest somewhere around or at the fuse panel.

I used to think that and some diagrams do show that. But you have to manipulate the wires on the new alternator to do it that way. Stock, looking at the back of the alternators you had white on the left and blue on the right. On a stock regulator Blue goes to F and white goes to 2.

If you jumper the outers and inners at the regulator and keep white left and blue right then you have #1 and #2 backwards from what they should be on the new alternator.

Here is what needs to happen. #2 on the 10/12si needs to connect to battery power. That is #3 on the regulator (red wire). #1 on the 10/12si needs to connect to the dash light. That is #4 on the regulator (brown wire).
