Good article. Interesting read that I very much agree with. This reminds me of my story that some may remember. When they mentioned "We may get Automatics in our trucks someday" at the place I worked at, I told them if they ever try to give me one, that's the day I quit. And I meant it !! Lol. I was driving a 10-Speed Road Ranger at the time:

I remember when I got my 1st CDL licenses.

I was working for a Caterpillar dealer.

The 1st truck did not pass the air brake inspection.:lol:

I hit the brake pedal and the gauge lost to much psi for the instructor to use this truck for the test.

They let me drive it back with the brake issue and no CDL.:haha::crazy::bann:

Then round 2 :mm: I brought a 1970 something GMC (Probably) C60 with a 2 speed rear axle and a 13 speed Transmission.

The Lady let me pass the driving test.:lol:

But she made the comment that I need to learn to keep both hands on the steering wheel.

I am glad she was nice about the way she said it.

Or I might have told her, You try to drive a 13 speed with a 2 speed axle around a city block and shift gears so it would not take us all afternoon to get back with both hands on the wheel. ;)

You guys would be surprised how many commercial truck drivers can't speak or read English....

Getter-Done, a 2-Speed Axle and a 13-Speed? Sure had a lot of gears, lol.

Yes Sir.

It was a Stake bed truck.

They used it for delivering engines and tracks and roller frames.

It was always a matter of time till this luxury that first was available to automobiles would extend to light duty pickups to medium duty trucks to heavy duty commercial vehicles. Easier to drive vehicles allows more people into the driving pool and subsequently more vehicles on the road. The golden age of real trucks and real trucking have long been over. Soon the autonomous ( self driving trucks ), the ultimate goal of business, will complete the cycle, which is fine to me, these vehicles will look ridicules anyways and would not want to be anywhere near them. We progressed into a world of nothingness and memories.
