4 years and I just drove it!
 

Been working on it for 4 years... Picked it up with my son to work on together. Been able to work on it more this past year since building the shop.

With help from folks here and friends locally I was able to drive it last night for the first time.!

Holly sniper 2 and I just put in the Holly ignition system this week. Just received the custom 17-in smoothie Wheels with center caps. Had them powder coated locally and just got the new tires on 2 days ago.

The test drive for 4 miles gave me some other things I have to address now. But it's exciting news.. took it down to the frame to start..

Congrats on the first drive. It had to feel good. I am coming up on 2 years for my build and am getting anxious to get it back together. I need to tamp down my anxiousness, so I don't end up rushing things.

I fought the urge to rush it. Other than I accepted the fact I wasn't going to do body work on it at this point. Maybe someday in the future. But it's virtually rust free..

These tires are about 31 in I'm 10 in wide

* I also like to think about the original buyer who back in 1960 clearly was looking for a work pickup truck. Went down to the local Chevy dealer to order or pick one off the lot... And says to the salesman.. "yep go ahead and order me the Neptune green"..

That was a guy with a lot of self confidence at the work site..

I happen to think it's an awesome color but I'm not sure I would ever order a brand new vehicle in it...

Chevy used that truck for many years and it was quite common. Thye called it simply "Medium Green" from 1967-1972. I have two such trucks and love the color.

Looks great and congrats on getting it back on the road. I really like the roof running lights.

Thanks I appreciate it. It already had roof chicken lights on it but they were all broken and smashed but the holes in the roof were there.

I happen to find the exact shape and match to what was there at harbor freight. There was a LED light option but I went with regular bulbs I think that gives it a better softer look than LED.

And I very much like the roof lights as well. I also did go with the same color turn signal lenses in the front grill instead of the original clear that I still have.

Ain't it fun!! Thats what this whole thing is about. Having fun with our trucks. I just today licensed the '64, looking forward to getting some seat time before winter.

Thanks... I just got back from a 5 mile test drive.. working on the adjustment of the turbo 400 kick down switch..

Sometimes kicks down great.. at higher speed not so much..

And driving it shows what else I need to pay attention to..

Steering wanders.. I need seat belts! I don't like the no belt feeling... Especially with one pot master cylinder and drum brakes still..

But I am getting looks going down the street...

Congrats on driving the project! I couldn't wait to drive my heap. I kept telling the wife," I just want a running project, not a garage queen" . It took me 2 years to get there. I know my life will be harder as there are things I should have addressed while it was torn apart. I have no regrets. I still work on it , but go on grocery runs with it too. Its street legal, lays posi and gets thumbs up every time I take it out. Great job and Enjoy!

First time I drove mine I was "Well..... we've come a long way since 1961." It's grown on me since.

Yeah it was just in time here to put it away for winter.. just got 8" snow last night.

But enough time to make a list to do
