Sealing rear door hinges.

Working on [panel and looking at these to improve, Chevrolet did not take any paind to align doors to body or seal up tight, Notcied tonight that rear hinges havd 1/8 gap all around them.

Wondering iof anyothers anal enough to sel them and if so with what? Gap between rear doors is anohter issue will adress before primer. Front doors looke like could use attention too. I know doing too much for waht will be driven fairly regular,But if doing iot do it roght or leave the damn thing alone.

If sealed around hinges in rear door what did you use oe suggest.

Id have to see a picture of what you are talking about so not sure if this is the correct answer. There is a gasket/seal that goes around where the hinge comes out of the door. Ill look for a pic of what Im talking about.

If you are talking about where hinge goes onto back of door itself(not the body). I was thinking there should be. Key word should be. When ypou looke at front doors. These thing where designed to leak some aso they could rust out.NLOL.

If can not find a gasket made for it. My first option was seeing if can add piece of metal inside of door and weld up,but would still need some sealing and realy do the job. Option two and it would be PIA. Making a o-ring seal with a piece welded in to act as reciever grove and I mean big PIA to fabricate and then get inplace. Hope for gasket.

Here are pictures of original used hinge gaskets and new hinge gaskets. I don't know if the new ones are NOS or replacements. The originals have a more pronounced raised lip on the back side. These came with my Panel Truck when I bought it. The new ones have a peel and stick paper on one side.... If there is a softer plastic available for the 3D printers I would think they would be easy to reproduce.

GMC Pauls has them listed new. It is labeled hatch but also say they fit the panel which only came with barn doors.

Their listing is incorrect though. It says they fit "1967-70 Chevy-GMC Panel truck With Rear Tailgate and Hatch". Like you said, they only came with barn doors.

I wish it had a picture of the other side of them. The original ones I have have a small groove so the sheet metal around the hinge fits into them. I will see if I can get a close up of one of them to show it in the morning. Also, the ones I have are the same width on both sides of the slot and the ones they list look like they are wider on one side. Maybe it is just the angle though....

Here is a closeup of the side of the grommet. The arrow points to the groove around the outside. It is about 1/16th inch deep. The grommet actually fits into the sheet metal. The lines on the ends show how deep the groove is there. The whole end from the lines out are loose.

Ive never seen the peel and stick ones before. Made so you dont have to pull the door off the hinge, good idea.
