Clutch Pedal Full Return
When I disengage my clutch the pedal does not return fully to the end of its travel. Does replacing the under dash clutch return spring fix this ?
The clutch is adjusted correctly and releases just fine. I just always seem to pull the pedal up with my left foot to get the clutch pedal to its normal resting location |

Are you sure the Clutch pedal return spring is installed and not broken? Here is a diagram of where it is installed. It should pull the pedal up unless the linkage is binding somewhere.... Do you have the clutch arm spring installed like the 2nd picture shows? |
Re: Clutch Pedal Full Return
Yes, nothing modified from original. The linkage moves freely.
That’s basically why I guessed the 54 year old springs might be sprung ? |

OK. Unless you have owned the truck since it was new there are a lot of things that can happen in 50 or 60 years. If the coils of the spring are tight together with the clutch pedal up the spring should be OK. Get a good light and reach up there and wiggle the spring before and after you pull the pedal up to see if it is loose. The brake pedal spring looks a lot like the clutch spring but they are not the same. Maybe someone replaced the clutch spring and used a brake pedal spring. Dunno, Just grasping at straws here.... :) . |

I got a little time to look at the clutch & linkage in detail tonight.
The clutch pedal is basically not returning in the free play portion of the clutch pedal stroke. The under dash linkage is different from your diagram. The clutch pedal it self has a pen in the arm for the return string. The return spring is in tension at both ends of the clutch peddle free play portion The return spring is not relaxed at the clutch pedal all the way up. The gap between the coils is even and about 1/16” I tried to get the return spring hookup configuration & the return spring when the clutch pedal is in the full up position in the attached photo |

Edit- as the upper spring is present in both configurations you have shown. I would make a guess that the upper spring is the return. The vertical one may be present to make holding the clutch open on a heavy duty clutch easier. IDK just a guess. |

I guess I would start by trying to lube the pedal cross shaft. There are nylon bushings/inserts on that shaft so maybe they are shot. |
