I just used a Precision gasket on mine without any problems. Mine is the plain one without the stainless trim.

I don't know who makes the gasket for LMC, but mine fit just fine and has been leak-free for 10 years. Even though I have a CST truck, it doesn't have the stainless trim.

Precision definitely. Regarding the Steele rubber suggestion they sell Precision brand 67-72 windshield seals. We offer all the precision brand seals ourselves at less than 1/2 the price of manufacturers suggested retail price for a significant savings over buying from Precision and Steele Rubber.

The Precision windshield and rear window gaskets are great on my truck.

GMC Paul. Can you comment on the performance results of the precision vent window rubbers in this thread? Thanks.

Still having issues with my install. Precision gasket with OEM 1971 trim into a 67 C20. Glass is original to the truck. I removed the glass to install stainless OEM trim from a 71 Suburban. Gasket is for a 71-72 with the short trim leg.

The gasket bunches up on the inside top corners and doesn't seat against the inside of the pillar on both sides.

Used the rope trick with plenty of slippery soapy water but still can't get the gasket to seat properly inside the truck. Outside looks good, however.

What in the world am I doing wrong? I have watched the Precision Install videos and pretty much followed them to the letter. Install top first and work around to the bottom.

Any insight from you Pros would be greatly appreciated.

Pictures of what you are seeing would help a lot. My seal does not have the stainless trim, but it bunched a little in the upper corners. If it is the same as what you are seeing, I had a friend inside the truck hold the seal lip out while I slapped the glass with an open palm from the outside to fully seat the seal lips and the glass. Don't hit it hard, and use an open hand and you don't have to worry about breaking it, but it will certainly scare your helper. It also moves slowly and a little at a time. Don't get impatient and it will go.

If you guys need certain shots to highlight specifics, let me know.

The shadows along the pillar pics doesn't really accentuate the problem. I will work on better pics of that.

Hopefully someone that has ran into this situation and resolved it could chime in with some insight as to what I need to do or not do.

No problem. As I said, my seal does not have the stainless trim, so I'm not sure what if anything that is doing. Given that, your pictures of the top of the seal wrinkling looks exactly like mine did before my buddy and I got the inner seal fully over the pinch welds. If you look inside the seal where the pinch welds go, there are a couple of lips or bumps in the seal that need to get over the pinch weld, you're stuck on one that isn't fully seating the seal. I suggest that you have someone inside pulling down and in on the seal while someone outside gently taps on the windshield with an open palm. Go easy and slow and eventually the windshield and seal will work their way where they need to be.

I had an old bodyman show me the tapping trick installing this style of windshield seal on old Freightliner trucks. He would tap on the glass while still wearing his wedding ring. That was really nerve-wracking.

I really don't want to remove this windshield again. This is already the 3rd attempt without a successful outcome.

First attempt with original gasket from 71 Suburban. Gasket was brittle and not as pliable as new gaskets. What little did fit into upper portion of opening was better than the new gasket.

Second attempt was with a lesser quality gasket and it wouldn't hold the trim in along the lower portion during install of the windshield regardless of how much tape I used.

Now I am here with the "Precision Premium Windshield Gasket" HMMMM???? I guess I am lucky I haven't broken the windshield yet on my third attempt.

The trim is a challenge. We used the precision gasket, and it was well made. Ordered for a 72 Jimmy. But we wrestled with it and the trim for hours. Then we tried a trim set we had from a 69 and that solved the problem. Seems ours may have been mispackaged?

I wouldn't pull the windshield out, it looks like you're almost there. Your inner seal lip is mostly over the pinch weld, it just needs to go a little further. I suggest you have someone help and pull the inner seal lip away from the cab and in towards where it needs to be while putting pressure on the windshield from the outside. I tap on them, but I can see how that would make a person nervous if you have never done it before. Maybe get a hose pick and carefully work it around inside between the seal lip and cab pinch weld. The windshield and seal need to settle into position. It will go slow, but if you keep working it, eventually it will go. When I was doing it, my friend was inside while I pressed and tapped on the outside of the windshield. We worked our way around a couple of times as I described, and suddenly he said "It's in, how did that happen?"

Gary - do you need one with trim or w/o? If the standard w/o trim - I think I have a precision one in my parts collection - new in the plastic still. LMK.

Just a quick update for those who were following this dilemma. I ended up removing the windshield again and using the original GM gasket that was mated to this trim. After soaking in hot water for about an hour, plenty of soapy water, diligence and patience, the windshield is in.

The gasket is tight all the way around the opening. A much better fit than what I was experiencing with the aftermarket gaskets. Even after 32 years of storage in a garage and 54 years after it was made, it still did the job to my satisfaction.
