1960 window question
 

Thinking of buying a 60 c10 that needs a bunch of work. One thing is the drivers side window is cracked. I have a brand new window I bought for a 63 that I have since sold & figured I could use that in the 60. But the 60 window is framed & the 1 I have is not.

So my question is can I still use the new unframed window to replace the original framed window in the 60?

Any info would b most appreciated.

I think there are two different door channel kits, so you might have to change out the channel on the door. For what it is, I'd just find the framed glass and use that.

I've read (on this forum actually) that framed windows are laminated safety glass while unframed are more modern tempered glass. If another framed window is not an option, I'd just use the unframed window along with the corresponding weatherstrip channel in the door and call it done.

I just replaced all the glass on my 1960 c10.

I know when I was looking at glass it specifically asked if it was framed or on framed. Which leads me to believe there was something different about it.

Mind was all framed.

Out of interest I'd love to see a picture of a framed window so the uninitiated of us know what we are looking at in future.

I just got home and I actually have one of the original glass that was in my truck that I kept after I replaced it with new. Here are two photos showing measurements you can see the dirty outline where the frame was at.

Maybe you could use these measurements to see if they're any different than the non-frame glass?

And just for reference I'll add a photo of the new glass in the frame. My truck is currently on the lift so I don't have great access.

Well .. it was work.. but not impossible.

I watched a member from here video... And just hit pause as needed..

It made sense as I went.. biggest hurdle was just starting and stop putting it off...

I ended up having to replace one window crank mechanism... It broke after a few tries after I put back together.. wish it broke before I finished.

Now the front windshield was work! 3-4 hours with three of us doing it.. afraid the whole time of breaking it..
