nope. yours should have the short all chrome without a rubber strip. Yours came out later around 1971

The rims aren't 68 either....or the motor, or the transmission. Heck, I'd be surprised if Any two part numbers match on this truck...

It doesn't matter as long as you're Happy with it.

Take note of the 67-68 being spread further apart on the bumper. Underneath the marker lights instead of attached to the frame mounting bolts.

I put some 67-68 style on my truck in the wrong location.... someone pointed out they were wrong. Oops.

No matter... I didn't know the difference and they look great to me. If you like 'em, that's what counts. :metal:

I actually like the looks of these bumper guards better than the correct dated ones.

You know this has bothered me all day. Like I'm stupid or I tried to lead you all astray...but, but, but, throw me a break at least I bought the correct style 67-69 side marker reflectors...from China!

No need to worry about it. It's your truck, do what you want. As far as leading us astray, I'm not sure this bunch could be lead anywhere. Just have fun with your truck.

Truck looks good. Original style or not. It took me a while to find mine, since I wanted to stay with the painted bumper

Is the 67-68 bumper actually different than a 69-70?

There are round counterbores (indents) on the 4 mounting holes near the license plate. Most of the original bumpers i have seen on 67-68 models did not have the indents. I was told they indented the mounting holes for the bumper guards. If the 67-68 bumper guards did not mount in that location, they wouldn't have needed the indents.

I installed mine several years ago. Like a dummy, I assumed that they must mount right at the frame rails, so I drilled my holes there. Turns out they don't fit there. I did some proper research and got them put in more or less the right position.

The old holes are still there. Have never figured out what to put in them to clean them up. I'm still pissed at myself for messing up my factory original chrome bumper.

Re: This Is What Front Bumper Guards Look Like On My 1968

I had to measure and drill the holes for mine on my 70. My Bumperettes were NOS, so I just followed directions in package. I think the 67/68 are the same as 69/70, but I can't swear on that. I know lot s of folks used the bumper holes near frame rail, so they wouldn't have to drill holes in their bumper. I do not know about the chrome bumpers, but on this factory painted bumper there were no marks or indents to let you know where to drill. Far as I know you just used the provided template and measurements that came with the guards.

Have you considered just putting new bumpers bolts in the holes?

You think you have a complex, listen to what I did. I put the bumperettes on my 70 on the bolts on the end of the frame rails and now these guys are telling me they go outboard of that.

I have set of short chrome ones waiting to go on my 1972 C10. I like of those as oppose to the tall ones with the rubber front. I do agree though, its your truck so run what u like on your truck.

Yes, but I haven't gotten around to it. I'll probably just see if I can find some chrome plated carriage bolts. I think the holes I drilled are smaller than the mounting holes. If a really nice straight original chrome bumper popped up for sale locally, I'd probably pounce on it.

the further they go out to the sides, that defeats the purpose. by looking at the pix of these guys mounting them further out beyond the frame bolts, the very center of the bumper would hit the object (car/truck bumper) directly in front of you....and not the guards themselve

Here's an old thread with original instructions for mounting the early bumper guards.

I dont see what is being guarded by the "correct" placement, vs the OP has something that might guard his bumper.

Yea, It's kinda strange that they put them so far off the frame. Mine are about 6.5 inches from the frame - where they are called out on the instructions. I checked and the tops of the guards do extend a bit forward of the bumper pointy part. The lower parts of the guards are pretty even with the pointy part of the bumper.

I wonder if they were more intended to protect the grill rather than the bumper. They probably won't make much of a difference in a real-world fender bender. I guess they were sold as more of a dress-up, appearance item.
