Seems legit to me. Otherwise someone went through a lot of painstaking effort and didn't patch the camper mounting hole in the bed rail. Everything from the video matched up that I could see (ie. seat belt date vs build date).

Having purchased a 79 with only 8000 original miles a few years ago from a farmer, I know they do exist.

what year did the SPID get the laminant cover? I'm thinking 1971. I had a '69 and they didn't have it then.

My 69 is just the paper sticker as well. That was the first thing I noticed on this truck.

Good question. It has a July '70 build date, pretty close to end of the '70's and close to the start of the '71 run. My '70 was built in 9-'69 and has a paper SPID.

On some of the really "Pretty" trucks I have seen laminate covers; you can purchase clear stick on, then cut it to size on SPID's that I assume were installed to preserve the writing from being scratched.

Whether the SPID was original or not I don't know, but I'm pretty sure the laminate was not.

the angled printing and actual font (different from the RPO font) of the VIN seems very convincing to me - fake SPIDs often just use the RPO fonts. Not sure I've ever seen a fake SPID print the VIN at a slight angle - something that is not uncommon on original trucks. Given it's very late in the 70 model year, I think it's possible the clear covering is original, but who knows. The truck is SO nice and "fresh" looking, it looks recently restored more so than an original survivor. But with only 5700 miles, who knows! I'd believe it - and it sure is a beauty.

Just a comment. Why didn't GM use the same shade of colors through out the interior? In this case, it appears we have a mishmash of maroons and reds on the dash board, steering column, steering wheel, inner door panel, visor, floor mat and seat upholstery.

Possibly multiple contractors/sources just not all aligned perfectly on colors to begin with...
Another thought is that in 1970 all the colors _were_ perfectly hued, but different substances [vinyls, naugahydes, plastics, lacquers, enamels, rubber mats, etc.] have all aged differently due to solar/UV exposure. So 56 years later we have diverging color shifts.

I find it hard to believe he got it in Ohio. If not for salt, then moisture alone usually puts a little rust and wear on certain items. Usually when you see something this nice, it is a Corvette or some car that isn't generic.

I can't find anything to fault the story or the truck. The rear bumper is a dealer add-on I think the guy in the video seems to think it's a factory addition. The front bumper guards might be aftermarket but probably are period. The only minor thing that looks too good to be true is the lettering on the tailgate looks a bit better than the usual factory painting. The factory pinstriping looks slightly off but it's hard to say for sure. Those could be variations in factories or model years. I thought the pinstriping was actually upper trim at first!

Rear step bumper is on the SPID (RPO V43).

kinda thought the paint looked suspicious, but the longer I look, the more subtle wear blemishes I see, like the seam at the top of the tailgate Definitely looks like it was buffed/rubbed out, but doesn't seem like a repaint

Hard to believe anyone(let alone a farmer) drove that for 9 years in Ohio without it rusting or dinging up the tailgate, but if this guy had money and kept it off the salted roads...

If the OP [Original Purchaser] had a camper unit on the bed, the tailgate would have been removed, and stored carefully. Hence it looks showroom new.

I have never seen any truck tailgate "carefully" stored for decades - they're simply set aside, forgotten, lost, disposed of, sold etc - it's highly uncommon for someone to wrap them up or boxed up.

I actually believe the guy's words of "camper" is actually canopy/topper so perhaps the tailgate was just never removed. the very top of the tailgate appears to have rub marks common with canopy/topper when that glass swing up door makes contact with the tailgate.

Since the artifact under discussion is 2 hours north of me, I am not likely to inspect it in person. Might as well be two thousand miles away.
Any online insight is purely speculation.
One can either accept it at face value, or imagine a great hoax involving a ton of NOS parts -- to what end IDK.
