Long Water Pump Bracket Help
At the risk of sounding dense, I need some advice. Pulling the original 283 from my 67 and installing a crate engine. The new engine has a long water pump that is going to pose some pulley and bracket challenges. The truck has been converted to power steering and I have that worked out for the long water pump but I really want to keep the alternator on the driver's side.
What are my options for brackets to keep the alternator on the driver's side. Obviously, I am going from heads with no mounting holes to now having that availability but will have headers so no exhaust mountings. I've read online and even searched this site and my slow uptake hasn't come up with a resolution yet. If it were a simple rebuild, I'd just throw a short water pump on the engine but to maintain any warranty I do not want to do that. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Long Water Pump Bracket Help
When I switched to headers on a 350, filled in the space between the header flange and the PS bracket with a short piece of 3/8" pipe and reused the manifold bolt.

Re: Long Water Pump Bracket Help
Alan Grove for the win! Or at least I hope.
Called them to order the long water pump brackets and the guy I was talking with asked me what I was doing. Told him I was putting a crate engine in a 67 C10 with a long water pump. He asked about pulleys and I said I needed those. He described what was needed and told me they had all those as well. So, I ordered the full monte from them. Will mock it all up on the stand soon and confirm all fitment. |

Just to close out this thread and update.
Alan Grove for the win! I sourced brackets and pulleys from them and it was refreshing to talk with someone on the phone that knew what they were talking about. All have been test fit and the brackets have now been painted. Plans are to set the engine in this weekend and can then start putting all back together. |
Re: Long Water Pump Bracket Help
I think I would have just swapped to a short water pump and use a 69-72 alternator bracket that bolts to the front of the drivers side head.
I get the warranty thing. I just like the oem look under the hood. |

Looks good. New pulleys actually made my motor quieter. I suppose they were just worn out and chafing belt.

Thought I would post up once more and close out this thread. I am pretty pleased with the Alan Grove brackets and their overall fitment and appearance. Finish up the exhaust soon and fire this machine up hopefully.
