Big Block headers for 67-72 C10 that fit.
I am building a 454 for my 1968 Chevy C10 that is a factory 396 with 400 turbo shortbed fleetside.
I was going to just rebuild the original 396 but I decided I want to have a little fun with more HP and Torque but not do any potential damage to my original engine and trans in the process so I am going to store those away. I am getting ready to buy some aluminum Edelbrock RPM 60455 cylinder heads that have a standard exhaust port location and also says the exhaust ports shape are "square". Anybody here that had purchased headers for bigblock chevy that fit well and would recommend? I did lower my truck about 4 inches but I dont see that as a problem with ground clearance just by looking at it. |

Hedman 68198...They're long tubes for chevelle of same era. I went with these after researching and had no major clearance issues. The finish/coating has lasted really well over the 6+ years they've been installed. Hth, -Kevin |

Nope! I believe this same set can be had sans ceramic coating but a quick look through hedman.com did not confirm this... :( EDIT: In the first pic, note the lower control arm cup/cap/nut near the #2 tube...that tube needed a little demple there... -Kevin |

Re: Big Block headers for 67-72 C10 that fit.
I used the Herman 68198 Chevelle Hedders also but had to modify my shift linkage to clear them. The stock TH400 trans crossmember was also in the way. I ended up going with a tubular crossmember to fix that issue. Note that I was tucking the exhaust between the frame rails so if you are not doing that, you may be ok with no mods. If you plan to tuck the exhaust this way it requires drilling holes in the trailing arm crossmember also. Makes for a very clean installation.

Lemon’s Headers.
They ask a lot of questions to make sure they are built to fit YOUR truck. They are tucked up in the frame, no need to dimple anything. I can change oil and not spill any onto the headers, and change plugs without any special tools. |
Re: Big Block headers for 67-72 C10 that fit.
The 3/4 length headers for a Chevelle worked on my 67/68 frame. They help keep the exhaust tubing tucked above the bottom of the frame rail as well for plenty of ground clearance (I don't want anything below the frame rails & have 3" exhaust). Full length 'truck' headers will typically be lower than the bottom of the rails.
I had to trim about .125" from the pass side frame rail to ensure the same clearance as the drivers side. This was using OE 69-72 engine towers as well. *EDIT* In my opinion, for a 'street' driven truck/vehicle w/a mild big-block, the better clearance of 3/4 length units outweighs the 'full length' headers possible performance benefits. |
