External sun visor manufacturers?
 

All,

I have a Fulton visor I found years ago that I found in the rafters of a house we bought.

I am curious was Fulton the only aftertmarket supplier of sun visors?

There were many suppliers. Google 'old car sunvisor adds' and look at images.

Not sure why Fulton name has survived so well. it is not even (IMO) one of the nicer ones, the universally adaptable ends make Fultons kind of ugly

Those aren't "sun visors" they are Frost shields. To keep the frost off the windshield in northern areas. the reason you never saw many in Texas but they are common in Michigan and Minnesota.

Truth is before Lowrider magazine came out in the mid 70's not real car guy would have been caught driving a car or truck with one on it and then guys started imitating the lowrider bomba trucks.

You can go through every page of Custom Chronicles and not one old custom car or truck has a frost shield on it. A very limited number of noted lowrider bombs do. https://www.customcarchronicle.com/

I'm not sure how many manufactures outside of Fulton there were as it was either grandpa bought one on his new car or truck or post war the dealers bolted them on to raise profit because for a few years there they loaded the cars down with every accessory they could stick on them because when you went to the dealer for a new car it was take it or leave it.

Some were advertised in the JC Whitney catalogs and some were at Western Auto or Coast to coast in the trinket aisle but I think most of the ones that you now see were factory units.

frost shields were those clear plasticky things stuck inside windows us folks up north used to see

Sun Shields not Frost Shields as stated by the manufacturer.

Chevrolet listed them as Frost shields that accessory list is from the 1948 Chevrolet truck pfd on the GM Heritage center vehicle information archives.

GM called them frost shields in 1948 and aftermarket called them sun shields or visors. Not a biggie but make sure you get your fedora hat. https://www.gm.com/content/dam/compa...olet-Truck.pdf
