Gas leak?
 

Took the 72 out for a spin, got groceries and filled it up.

Stopped for like 5 minutes (not running) to get matching vintage cooler and there was a gas puddle on the passenger side by rear wheel. The truck was parked at an angle ( passenger side slightly lower).

I came home and it isn’t leaking now? Any suggestions?

That's a strange one. Possibly leaking around the sending unit hole or the return line on the tank? Was there a strong smell of gas in the cab?

It hasn’t replicated and I’ve checked every 15 minutes or so. I actually put it back in the garage.

No smell of gas in the cab at all, can smell it outside a little where it leaked but I don’t see anything.

Filler neck connector hose original? 50+ years takes its toll. You mentioned a fill up. Could have leaked onto top of tank and dripped to passenger side. Still running a sealed (not vented) cap?

I have to crawl under and take a look. Yes running a regular non vented cap.

On my 67 Burban there is a hidden piece of fuel hose on the passenger side near the 3rd door pillar in front of the trailing arm crossmember. It is a 5-6" U-shaped hose that connects the steel in from the fuel pump to the steel line that goes to the fuel tank. I don't know if it is that way on all 67-72 Burbans of only 67's.

I cut the 90 degree bends off and replaced mine with compression fittings and a piece of steel line. Circled in photo.

This would be my guess also. My 72 U hose was cracked and leaking also.

If you find another leak, it may be good to clean this hose and check it for cracks or just replace it anyways.
