Original 72 front differential?
3 Attachment(s)
Wondering if this is an original 72 front Dana 44? The steering stabilizer looks correct, but not sure. Also, are the lockouts complete? Thanks!

Re: Original 72 front differential?
Looks about right. That Dana 44 was used from model year 1971 thru the Squarebody era.
It's like the one on my '71 GMC Jimmy K/1500. :gmc2: |
Re: Original 72 front differential?
take the cover off, there is a date stamped on the ring gear. There are also numbers stamped on the long axle tube, if you can still read them, these will help narrow down the build date/configuration.

Re: Original 72 front differential?
The stabilizer is correct as far as I can tell. Lock outs look to be all there. I believe that to be a 71-72 axle. The BOM number on the front/bottom of the axle tube is the best way to tell exactly what it came from as well as the original ratio. The gear stamp on the ring gear is a good clue but a lot can happen in 50+ years.
