Inside cab rear corners
So, yesterday, I was out doing a bit of wrecking yard searching for some parts and came across an early 47 cab. A good portion of the front end of it had seen long since better days, but the one thing that I found, peaked my interest...
It was those tall rounded inside corners. The ones that extend from the seamline under the corner windows, down to the floor and almost look like they have opening rolled inward designed to fit a 6x9 speaker. LOL. Has anyone ever seen a repop of one of these (not the squared off ones that LS Fab sells) or had any experience removing them? Of course they are spot welded into place, but are the tops and bottoms welded or just the sides? I'm considering going back to remove them for my build. Also, the three supports from the floor up to the seamline are much beefier than those of the later years. |
Re: Inside cab rear corners
Is this an AD series cab or 39-46 series? I have never seen factory metal interior cab metal corners for below windows on an AD but the earlier cab design has them and repops are available
For the AD cab, I made my own. https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=841095 post 2 It could be a lot simpler than that in design and if you use light material like 20 gauge just bend it around a welding tank or something. Leave extra material on the door post side where the radius is tighter for leverage, take your time, lots of small bends, trim to fit once you have the radius right. |
Re: Inside cab rear corners
These are for an AD truck.
One of the trucks I worked on for a friend had these. Never seen them before, but they were apparently stock in the VERY beginning of 1947, then discontinued. This is the only truck I've ever seen where I might be able to get them from. If the price was right, I'd take the whole cab, but it'd need to be craned out from it's spot! |
Re: Inside cab rear corners
I don't think we had 6x9 speakers back in 1947 so I think they are after market. Having said that if they are in good shape and the cost is right I'd say go for it

That being said, I'll be trying to get ahold of the yard as to what they want for the whole cab. Thinking about it, where it is, it's either having to be craned out over the fence or I'll end up cutting the cab up, tossing it over the fence and putting it into my truck on the other side. The rest of the cab is pretty much rotten right out on the underside and most of the way up the firewall. Knowing this, if the deal is right, it'd be worthwhile to cut out what I need, scrap the rest (I know a guy that needs part of a roof) and take my time cutting out the parts I want, in the comfort of my shop and carefully. When I go down, I'll take pictures so you can see what I mean. |
Re: Inside cab rear corners
Those are part of the structure to stiffen 47/48 cabs with the center cab mount and two rubber bumpers out at the frame rail .
