Altman Hood latch

I’m having an issue with this latch not closing easily. From what I can tell my hood is not parallel with the latch. I put some shims in to straighten the angle. Is my hood bent, I can’t find a picture to see if the hood is flat with the latch. Without the shims it won’t close. It has too much of an angle. Hard to get a good picture but the more it closes the more angle I have.

I went and looked at my sons C10 and my hood is fine. The original latch has an angle built into it. I reached out to Trique so I will see what they say. I can’t be the only one with this issue.

A shot in the dark here....I know or have zero experience with these latches, but I googled them and I see a difference in the 67-68 as it is angled down compared to the 69-72 latching platform.

Forgive my ignorance but why replace the factory latch?

.

Good catch.

I too did a dive looking for solutions but completely missed this. Best I could come up with was to modify the platform slightly or bend the tong to accommodate so I didn't post.

Yes. The early platform has an angle built into it (sloping down toward grill) where the later platform is more flat.

I wondered this also unless you just don't have one, I can see it. Mine still works perfectly after 56 years, even the one on my 40 Ford, after 86 years still works like butter.

So I did contact Trique manufacturing and he said this is the first they have had this issue. My fix was a set of shims on the hood plate. Seems to work for now. My son in laws truck is a 69 and has the angle.

If you look up a pic of the 67-68 latch you will see a much steeper latch angle. There is a reason they are separated by 67-68 and 69-72

The company told me they are aware of the angle but the design took this into consideration. Apparently my truck is just out of spec. We’ll see if they come up with a fix.
