log in question moved

This morning I posted a question about how to contact Liz or Josh about a log in problem.
Now that post has been moved.
Any idea why it was moved and where it went to ?

Re: log in question moved

A team member probably moved it.
Site feedback and Announcements are monitored by Josh and Liz.

This way you get faster response.

Re: log in question moved

Yes, I moved it. It was inappropriate to post that question in this section. Any site issues NEED to be posted in the site feedback area so that Josh and/or Liz can help you.

Re: log in question moved

I hate to be a pain, but I've posted in the site feed back with no response from Liz or Josh. I thought that by posting in the discussion I might get the attention of some one who could help.

Re: log in question moved

Now I can't find a link to site feedback

Re: log in question moved

Also, I think it would have been nice if you had posted a reply saying why my posting had been moved and where it went to.

As I have said before, and I'm not trying to be mean, nasty, a jerk or any other thing, but those questions cannot be answered in this part of the board. Many of the guys here have tried to help you with your login in issues, me included. However, ultimately, we do not have the juice to be able to do anything other than give advice.

Josh and Liz are THE only ones who can potentially deal with this, that's why I've said these issues need to be posted in the site feedback area. I cannot do anything about Liz or Josh not responding to your requests, I'm sorry and also sorry that I cannot help you in any way.

Here's a link to your question, that I moved, which is in the site feedback area.

I'm not trying to be a jerk either, And yes, many people have tried to help. Unfortunately this is an on going problem that is extremely frustrating. I appreciate that you have moved the posting to the site feed back area, but I can't find that on the site. Also, I have never had any contact with Liz or Josh.
The interesting thing is this problem only happens on one of my computers. Even my tech staff can't figure out the problem. So I hope you can understand why I'm so fed up with this problem.

Re: log in question moved

Just fyi, after I entered the last post, the site deleted my log in Name & password.
Had to re enter 6 times before I got back to the site. Every time I entered the user name and password, I got the screen thanking me for logging in.

We have had this conversation before.

This 100% indicates the problem is on your end. I have suggested that before.

Except for some unavoidable nuisances around cloudflare it seems to be trucking along fine for most of us most of the time.

Not trying to be rude or blow my own horn or anything, just trying to help set your expectations.
I have decades of IT experience. I am ultimately responsible for online systems with thousands of users. If one user keeps having problems no-one else is reporting I'd assume the issue is on their end. If it was just one of their computers I'd know the issue was on their end. At this point I'd expect my paid staff to politely point them at our FAQ and move on to helping other people. If it was an internal user I could not ignore I'd start by giving them a different computer, with proof that the problem was related to a single computer we'd wipe that computer and rebuild it, we would not spend much time trying to troubleshoot.

I hope the site is generating enough revenue to pay for itself, but I expect it is at best a side job for the owners and a volunteer gig for admins.

I don't know if there is a login FAQ for this site. vBulletin.com maybe your best source for how it works. But it would be easier to rebuild your computer than dig in there.

Re: log in question moved

Lee- thanks for the feed back.
My son is the I.T. manager for a big car dealer in Seattle and maintains about 800 computers and he can't find the problem.
What makes us think it's a system problem is I have a lap top in the garage that doesn't have this problem. My last laptop I had in the den did have this problem. Then the power cord connection failed so David built me a new desk top. Now the desk top has the same problem. It's very frustrating as you can imagine.

Lee - since you have some computer knowledge, here's a wild thought..
Could this problem be caused by me using the same IP address and the same log in & password on 2 computers??? Just a random thought.

leegreen 02-18-2026 07:21 PM

Re: log in question moved

I use 2 computers and have no issues, my computers are not on the same service provider, but that should not make a difference, If the router(s) between you and the Internet are setup correctly.

Maybe experiment around that idea. Shut off the least used computer for a few days, use the other computer with the site to benchmark how it behaves, then fire up the other computer and visit the site. Back to the main computer and see if it still behaves.

Something for your tamed IT guy to consider: way back when there used to be ISPs that limited number of MAC addresses that could connect from your service point and get IP addresses. Clever people found ways around that. If that led to multiple computers spoofing the same MAC, getting on the Internet with the same IP without a router specifically doing address translation for the computers it would mess up the authentication certificates that sites like this use to keep track of your login. (that would be a you problem not a site problem) . If you have a setup like that or you have remnants of it on your computers it could still be a problem.

Hopefully you have a router in your house that takes care of managing your connection properly. It would not hurt to make sure it's firmware was up to date.
