Acc carpet install question
Hello fellas, I’m attempting to install new carpet in my 1970 Chevy truck. Does the carpet go under the firewall insulation pad or over the top of it . curious if it tucks behind it or not thank you.

Re: Acc carpet install question
IIRC it goes over the firewall insulation.

A seasoned pro installed my carpet. It's what I thought it was, 50/50 chance☺ - the carpet installs on top. Otherwise I'd think it would jack up the pads and plugs mounting it.

I opted to use Lizard Skin inside the cab to deaden the sound and have a thermal barrier. I do not know how effective this will be, but I have heard great things about the product and seen a couple of builds online where it significantly reduced heat. As a result, I did not run the cardboard and insulation along the firewall. Given all that, here is what the carpet in my cab looks like along the firewall.

That’s tidy right there. Nice stuff.
My ACC vinyl floor was complete garbage. I’ll give their carpet a try. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice…. |

So on my hot rod projects insulation wise I use the following:
Completely cover the bare cab Dyna Mat like stuff from Summit. I buy the universal kit and cut to fit from the top of the firewall to the back of the cab. The Dyna Mat like insulation is self sticking. After that I use I think from DEI foil insulation. Foil on both sides with about 3/8" jute between the foil. 3M glue it to the Dyna Mat like stuff. Pic of my 68 prior to carpet. |
