Tailgate interchange

Just got a good deal on a GMC tailgate and realized that this 81-87 gate will not fit on my 79. Any way to modify to make it fit? Looks like trunnions are different. Thanks.

You will need to obtain the matching hardware. The bedsides are compatible. I put a 80's something tailgate on my 75. Obtained tailgate from the local pull-a-part. Also got all the matching mounting hardware. IIRC one of the rubber bits didn't fit but the gate otherwise works fine.
