67 C-10 Steering linkage help.
I have a 67 C-10 2506-Cyl. 3 on tree. When I try to shaft to 2nd or 3rd it kicks the shifter leaver out hard. I thought at first my tranny senqs. might be going bad. But after inspecting the linkage under the hood I notice that a steel band on top where the upper linkage connects to the steering column was broke. Theres another one below where the linkage connects to the steering but is ok. Does any one have a diagram of the steering linkage? I searched the web but found none. Just trying to see how its suposed to look like to compare. Hopeing it might be a quick fix and not my tranny going bad. If I take my time and work the shifter slowly it wil go through all the gears. Any help is greatly appreciated.
If I have to replace my steering column what years of manual 3-Speed on tree will swap out the easyest |
Might try going to a junkyard to see the linkage. Those linkages are notorious for hanging up. The '64 I learned to drive in was hell, had to get out of the truck and wiggle the linkage to free them up usually at a stop light. I seem to remember that they were not that difficult to rebuild by welding up the worn spots, and lubing everthing real well. Mine never kicked out of gear though, just hung up. You may have a syncro problem, try changing the gear oil, or try a lighter gear oil. The newer manuals use motor oil, or auto trans fluid. Good luck, sorry I can't be more help as I have an auto in my '67 now.
