ifs lift ?s

What problems will I have with a suspension lift for my 90 Gmc k1500? What are the largest tires you can safely run on the ifs axles w/o breaking? Also, what brand should I use and why? Should I just get an older truck w/o the ifs? Thanks

Two major problems with the IFS and lifting them:
1) Limited ground clearance
2) CV joints
Neither of these is really a big deal, you might tear the rubber off of the CV joints in rough terrain, particularly snow, but can be replaced easily.
You wont have as much ground clearance with a lifted IFS as you would with a lifted SFA(solid front axle).
One other thing is you probably do not have all the tools needed to do it yourself, so you will most likely need to have a shop do it...
I would go with lifting the IFS if I were you for the sake of the ride quality it offers. The best alternative method would be converting to SFA, which would cost about the same as lifting the IFS, and you would want a shop to do that also. IFS lifts usually run you about $1000-1500. Remember you might lose some ride quality converting to SFA...
If I were you I would go with a 6" IFS lift from Superlift and 35 inch tires. 1/2 tons of these years have a little less clearance than earlier trucks, so you wont be able to fit as big a tire on yours as you would with a earlier truck with the same lift.
I am going to lift my 97 3/4 ton Silverado with the Superlift 6" IFS kit and 36 inch tires, seeing as how 3/4 tons have a little more clearance than 1/2 tons...
Good luck with whatever you choose...

Why do you reccomend using superlift over other brands(procomp, skyjacker, etc.)?

Well I have two friends with Superlift 4" IFS lifts and they come with alot of extra stuff, so I think they are the best value. By stuff I mean a skid plate, extra small parts incase of lost ones, etc.. Also they offer kits for alot of different trucks, for example my 97 3/4 ton, before i found them i could not find a kit for this truck because it is a 3/4 ton...
