Chrome trim on drip rail??

Look at this truck on The Truck Shop's webpage and tell me if the chrome trim on the drip rail is stock. I've never seen it before.

Thats almost like mine, and it looks good.....

MrGoodpliers 02-11-2004 10:36 AM

Yes, that is original. They came on CST's and Cheyenne Supers, but I'm not sure if it was standard for these packages or optional.

jorgensensc 02-11-2004 10:48 AM

MrGoodpliers,
Really, I didn't know that. I haven't seen them reproduced, at least not that I know of.

MrGoodpliers 02-11-2004 11:07 AM

LMC has them for $149.95, Golden State for $124.95. :flag:

jorgensensc 02-11-2004 12:08 PM

OMG! No wonder I don't see them on anything! That's a whole lotta money!

I have it on mine, it looks pretty good.

You guys will probably laugh at me for this, but I wanted to add the chrome drip trim, and thought the price a little too steep for my taste. Long story short, I bought some flexible plastic chromed door edge in a 16' length, and used that instead. Looks great, and not one person has noticed it is not the real thing. The stuff has adhesive on the inside of the channel, and has stayed on for 2 years now with no problem, and still looks nice and bright. If it ever starts looking faded or funky, I'll just replace it with some more, 'cause the price was right, and it is a very simple install.

Good think n Barn9!

Hey are those real? It took awhile to get to the text!

Classic Heartbeat 02-11-2004 02:29 PM

I think that it looks pretty nice if you can get it installed. I have fought with that stuff to install it and had success with the side pieces, but have yet to get the front pieces to work. I am not shure that they were an optiion on these trucks either. Maybe something installed from the dealer, but I have yet to see it on any option sheets that I have seen. I have seen it installed on only one truck that was obviously original. The truck was a red longbed that was a real Tiajuana taxi / jalopy. The truck was a total wreck and the driprail trim was the nicest item on the truck. These guys were using it for a lawn service. Last summer they would come by and cut my grass. They spoke very little english and I never got a chance to ask if they wanted to sell the trim or trade it for a 12 pack. I plan on hiring them again this summer. Maybe I will have to brush up on my spanish.

Classic Heartbeat 02-11-2004 07:49 PM

The only way you can tell if it is original is by seeing it on the build sheet, or on the glove box option sheet. They may have been installed by the dealership, or ordered aftermarket since the truck was new. It is just not possible to tell just by looking at them on the truck. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

dion 02-12-2004 12:23 AM

Elk,

I put them on, and it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be! They don't fit as well as I'd like.

It was a while back, I think it was brothers or chevy duty.

hey, did you get my check?

Edmond 02-12-2004 05:15 AM

There is a page in the assembly manual with the driprail molding and how to install it. But it has the text Cancelled on it, so it was probably gonna be an option, but never made it to production?

I agree with that.

I beleive there was something in this thread about drip rails or somrthing but I was blinded by the high-beams that were flashed.

well, they went pretty easy for the most part but the welds on the drip rail caused a little problem, the trim wouldn't line right up to each other and left a small gap, you're supposed to cover that gap with the 1 inch clasp hold down thingys but because of the welds it wouldn't stay on. also, my passenger door just very slightly hits the trim and will sometimes knock it off at the bottom, it goes right back on though and as long as you open and close the door quickly it doesn't happen. I'm sure that only happens because my door isn't on perfectly straight. I can take some close up pics if you like. They did scratch the drip rail paint but nothing else.
