Opinion on tailgate trim and roll pan

What is your opinion.

Can you sport a roll pan with the Silverado tailgate trim?
Should you remove the tailgate trim if you run a roll pan?
Or keep the tailgate trim and get a suburban bumper?

I've seem some that look fine with a pan and the tailgate trim, just depends on the style of the truck. If all else is shaved, then the gate trim will just make it look like you got lazy. I much prefer the straight across pans to the v-shaped pan on the yellow truck pictured. I like a shaved gate and either a roll pan or a Blazer/Burb chrome bumper.

Low87on20s 02-12-2004 05:05 PM

What about a bumper and no Silverado trim?

I plan to smooth the tailgate.

Low87 02-12-2004 05:17 PM

Looks cool to me, smoothed or not. Are you going to leave the chrome on the taillights? Just curious, looks good either way. Nice truck.

8t5Silverado, what it really boils down to is what do you like?

8t5Silverado 02-12-2004 06:09 PM

I like the trim if it has a suburban bumper. Sometimes the roll pan and trim look ok together, and sometimes it doesn't...

I guess it depends on the truck....

shavedchevy 02-12-2004 07:59 PM

not much of a tailgate kinda guy... but I'm all for a smooth look...

C&C Chevy 02-12-2004 08:04 PM

I actually like the smoothed tailgate look with a nice chrome bumber. But I'm weird like that.

might i suggest this mod with a roll pan

BowTieMan 02-12-2004 11:31 PM

Or no bumper or tail gate:D . Nobody else ever does that.

But I seriously I like the look of the bumper without the trim.

I don't really care for that mod, I prefer the pan recessed a bit. I guess it just keeps with the lines of the truck. Looks too "mini truck" for me.

Here's another option. It's a Silverado Blazer trim panel.....

i don't have a pic of the back of it but a buddy of mines truck has the trim panel with a roll pan and i think it looks good. if you want to see a pic of it he was featured in Truckin either last month or the month before. the issue that had the calender in it. is a purple and silver two tone. i'm not sure if they got a pic of the back of it in the feature, i don't have it with me

yeap:)

thats what i'll be doing

That blazer trim looks really good with the bumper, but so does low87on20s without the trim. I don't think I will go looking for one because my tailgate trim is in mint condition (but says Chevrolet).

low84, I have seen that article and it looks decent. I just think it might look funny on my lwb.

I am going to start looking for a blazer bumper again and do the no tailgate/no bumper thing for a while.

swervin ervin 02-13-2004 11:10 AM

I'm weird I guess, but I like the v shaped roll pan better. The straight across kind must have the tag hanging down below the rest of the pan and just looks tacky to me. Anyway, I also like the way our tailgates have the recess in them. I don't like a smoothed gate on our trucks. It's too much smoothing to me or something. To me these trucks need some things to not be flat everywhere. I also don't like the chrome trim on the taillights if it has all the other trim removed. But that's just me I guess. To each his own. It's good we all don't like the same things or else every dang truck on here would look just alike, same color and all. Wouldn't that be boring? :D

Oh, and a rear bumper on a lowered truck just don't cut it. I wish our front bumpers were not so danged big. Especially if it's down 6" or more. The gate panels are a toss up. I like them both ways. I've seen some real nice trucks with and without and they all looked good. I do like Jeff's relocated handle though. This is what I plan when/if I ever get my truck repainted. Someday. :D

Well let me know when your ready. I have one or two laying around;)

8t5Silverado 02-13-2004 03:06 PM

I agree with Mike, I like the recessed tailgate. I also think the chrome trim on the lights looks out of place on a truck that has had a lot of trim removed elsewhere.

However, I think a lowered truck can look good with a Suburban bumper, depending on the truck. N2TRUX looks good with one, cause his truck has all of the trim.

I don't know. Sometimes I think a LWB needs a rear bumper, but then again it looks good with a roll pan on some trucks (shavedchevy). I think it has to do with the height of the truck. The higher it sits, the more it needs the bumper.

bagged81 02-13-2004 03:49 PM

I am liking that on that N2TRUX posted and Low870n20's. :)

Here is mine. It was a major pain in the butt and if I were to do it again, I would use a filler panel and weld the gate closed.

Low87on20s 02-13-2004 03:55 PM

I had the rear bumper off for a long while. With just the 5 inch drop in the rear, it didn't look right without the bumper. I put the bumper back on and it made the rear of the truck "look" lower. Plus in my opnion, on a black truck with all the chrome removed, the bumpers and the polished rims bring a persons eyes down to actually focus on the stance of the truck.

No trim unless it's a two tone color!!

BowTieMan 02-13-2004 06:51 PM

N2TRUX do you have any more pictures of that truck? I like the way that rear looks. But I like the way the whole truck look. And are those the same rims as yours? What brand are they?

The pics I posted above are of my buddies truck. He goes by n2billet, but he doesn't post on here too often. He lurks a lot, but doesn't post much. Anyway, the wheels you see in the second pic were borrowed from my Blazer. They are 18/20's Budnik "Famosa's" which is the same as the Billet Specialties "VinTec" 20's that I have on my 77 Cheyenne.

Here are a couple more pics. This is with 17" Billet Specialties "Talladega's".....
