CARFAX report on my truck.....
 

A few surprises for sure. :)

The truck has more miles than I was told. Prior owner said it had 80K original miles. On 3/01/98 is was recorded as having 155,990. On 2/24/01 it was recorded as having 62,937. I'm fairly certain the motor has been replaced w/ a 90' 350. To top it off, it was designated a Gross Polluter on 3/08/2003!

The truck has a clear title too. This surprised me because I know it's been in an accident as the frame is bent. Obviously, they didn't report what happened. Oh well.....:D

My friend bought an 87 Z28 that showed ~80,000 on the clock. I asked the guy how many it had and thats what he said, I ran a carfax and it showed it had rolled, so it had over 180k. Ran very good and the motor was supposed to have had less than 20k miles on it, trans was running good also.

No surprises on my truck, no incidents reported, supposedly looks like i'm the second owner, but I am not so sure about that. Had 128,402 miles on it when the title changed over to me.

Older model vehicles only had 13 digits, I don't remember the year they changed over exactly, I think it was late 70's maybe?

When I tried to do my dads 79 it said there was a certain ago requirment and It was two old. Something like 83 or newer?

That site is a crock. My dad had this truck and got in a crashed and it was totalled. We bought it back and it is now a salvage. Carfax says it IS NOT a salvaged vehicle. Doh! It said my odometer reading was inconsistant because whoever did smog since it had roller over forgot to put a 1 in front of what the odometer read.

I think it will only work for 81 and up trucks. Or maybe 80 and up, one of those years. So any vehicle pre-80 you can't run a carfax report on.

I'm relatively certain that 17 digit vins began in 1980. I do know for certain that the 10th digit was the year model A=1980, K=1989, etc. They skipped the letters I & O for obvious reasons. My '94 is an R so I don't know how they were coded after 2002 or so because there would be no letters left.

Where does Carfax get it's info is the question I would like answered.
Get this..........a law was passed making you have to provide ANY accident info.
Why? So the states could sell the info (on you) to outside companies for a profit.
Anything you tell the police or the court house will be sold and you can do nothing about it.

:lol: says my truck has had no major accidents, this i know is wrong cause i was in it when it was hit by a telephone truck, and sent flying across 2 lanes. also said my odometer had been rolled back 66,470 miles.. in 1994. that would mean my truck has 282,500 miles.

so much for that in the last hour they changed it and you cant get free report anymore.
