A breed apart we are!

I would just like to say that you guys and those who drive trucks like ours are great people. It happened again today... driving home I saw a 69 K20 comming down the road at me.... the other guy and I both take one look at each other and wave at the same time. I can't count how many times I've had that happen to me. One day it was 3 times in like an hour. Others wave too but not hardly as much. About 2 1/2 months ago I was coming back from the girlfriends house, sitting at the light and I see outta the corner of my eye a new jacked up chevy pull up next to me.... so when I looked over the guy rolls down his window.... looks my truck up and down.... looks at me... and says I like that. So I just grinned and waved. You guys are truely a breed apart and deserve some recognition.

i get the same thing and even people that don`t have one always want to talk about it. when i`m out riding my bike everyone always waves too.

Blue Beard 03-05-2004 12:13 AM

I get allot of younger generation looking at my ride..........

krazy_texan 03-05-2004 12:19 AM

all my little bros friends gawk at mine

lukecp 03-05-2004 12:23 AM

Happens to me with about half the trucks like mine i see on the street. I always wave, the driver waves back about half the time. Usually if i see the driver is about my age i snap my exhaust at them, lol.
I love driving my truck! :bowtie: :burnout:

Russell 03-05-2004 02:25 AM

hehe, I do the same thing with my 80 -- Its a peice, but I get waved at all the time, and I always wave back :) One time I stopped at a red light and a lifted truck pulled up on the left, then a slammed truck on the right, we all looked at eachother, cracked the exhaust at eachother, and took off, needless to say I got wasted, but it was still fun, next light we all rolled down our windows and started yelling at eachother asking what they got under the hood and stuff till the light went green again, once again I got spanked, and as I pulled off we all waved at eachother again, lol :D

1969 GMC 03-05-2004 02:33 AM

i dont get waved at too much, surprisingly. i think its because i drive exactly at the speed limit. i do like to watch people pass me on the highway tho, they look at my truck then turn their head around when they are in front of me, and then swerve to avoid going into the median. occasionally someone will come up to me and chat at a gas station, but that is very rare. but then, everyone that has ridden in my truck loves it because of all the "old skool" features...like all-metal interior and school bus sterring wheel. and when i see another 67-72 on the road, sadly, i usually get stared at like an idiot if i wave. no one really asks me about my truck, i think because i live in a high-density ricer zone.

Razor454 03-05-2004 02:45 AM

About 75% of everyone I pass with the same truck wave, no matter what shape the truck is in, it is a good feeling to see others have the same interest in trucks.

Yeah, my favorite thing is when a ricer pulls up beside me and starts to laugh and point with his/ her friends, but as soon as the light changes he/she is still sitting there trying to figure out what just happened....all they will see is my rear lights. :D

LOL I count too I guess, 16.

Your right about people saying they like the old school features, you wouldn't believe how many '' hot '' I mean like  love the fact that I drive an old truck. Then when they get in its like wow I love how these things are all metal. I mean come on how many girls have you talked to that just start radomly talking about how they like the older trucks like yours, '' if that isn't getting hit on I don't know what is '' lol I LOVE THESE TRUCKS.

As for snapping the exhaust...hehe..hehe...hehe..HEHEHE...

 the horrific single exhaust is getting ripped off tomorrow...and dual straight pipes are getting run out in front the rear wheels tomorrow. Sorry haven't been this happy in a long time.

May these trucks live forever.

I work in downtown Calgary, which is infested with hi rises and yuppies with BMW's Mercedes, etc. One day I decided to drive my newly purchased 72 Blazer to work for the heck of it. Now this truck was completely original, yuckie olive green paint, but everything in somewhat decent shape, and I got three different thumbs up from suits! I think everyone likes these classic trucks!

Oborny71 03-05-2004 03:49 AM

the greatest feeling in the world is getting a wave or thumbs up from someone. Its makes all the blood, sweat, hardwork, and $$$ that we put into these trucks worth it. Nothing beats that feeling.

70cst 03-05-2004 10:23 AM

Ok I'll add my .0002 cents worth. I agree with the above. There is somthing that is 100% American when driving our old trucks. Can you count how many parts are imported parts that are assembled in these trucks. When they came off the assembly line I bet they were 99.99999% American made parts produced by American companies. You can't say that about todays trucks no matter what the manufacture. Also look at the vendors who suppply parts for our trucks. They know our trucks, own trucks like ours, are knowledgeable about our trucks, are very helpful, plus are honest and trustworthy. Well at least 99.9999% of them are. And how about the people who own and drive these great trucks. They are the type of people who make America GREAT. They are young, old, rich and poor (like me), male and female, black and white, short and tall, and they come from the east, west, north, and the south. Their family men and women. They are young and single or older and single. Our trucks are made for the common man and women. I see them as an exteneded family. I've owned a corvette (sixs months after I was married it was gone) and a corvair. My old truck gets more attention even in the shape it's in.
These trucks just flat out represents America. Yes the people who own these trucks are special. Their common folks who enjoys life. America just wouldn't be America without these old trucks.
Chevy/GMC trucks are built like a rock...We'll guess what...SO IS AMERICA!!

my friends daughter, (16) wants her dad to buy my (unrestored) stepside.Every time she see's it she keeps asking me to sell it !She thinks our trucks are "so cool looking".She shocked the crap out of me when she asked how long it would take to restore it with some of "dads" help....... I let her drive it around the neighborhood 1 time , manual steering, brakes,4 speed. She had a smile from "ear to ear", ive never heard the word "cool" used so many times in a 15 minute drive..... jeff:D

Guess I'll just wave my flag and hope someone sees us up here.

dubie 03-05-2004 11:33 AM

I used to have people stop me all the time to ask about my 72, even tho it was painted in Tremclad bright blue :D It's just something about the body style that gets em. I can hardly wait to see what people say when they see mine all done!!! :D

99-2door 03-05-2004 05:21 PM

I had the body of my 67 sitting next to my shop. So many people stopped and asked to buy it that I moved it to where you can't see it from the road. One guy asked about the slammed 72, :) It is a body sitting on the ground. HA

67chevemall 03-05-2004 06:22 PM

I GOT THE PIPES.... not straight like I wanted... the shop didn't want me back with a fix it ticket... so I had him put 12 inch glasspacks on with 2 1/2 pipe.... god I love that sound. :bowtie: oh and do people look now... HAHAHA.

lukecp 03-05-2004 11:09 PM

I've had maybe one or two girls say they liked my truck, lol. Most of the females don't like old trucks too much, oh well, i love it!
One girl i dated since i bought my truck absolutley loved it and thought it was great, and another didn't seem to care at all
My little sister loves my truck though, she will be driving age in a little over a year and i want to put her in one too, lol. She will be the only girl in the school parking lot driving an old pickup, lol.

Anyway, just today i got to talking to an older guy about my truck. I was parked and he came up and asked me what year the truck was, said he had a '72 Cheyenne the same Ochre color as mine, with a bedside toolbox back in the '70s.

Also saw 3 trucks on the road, 2 71-71's and one 69-70 today. The guy in the 67-70 waved back at me, the guys in the 71-72's didn't :(

Ah yes, reminds me of the day when i was also 16 (like 3 years ago  ) and got a pair of 12" glasspacks on my truck, ditching my crappy and quiet turbos :D

It was a happy day indeed, i FINALLY had a vehicle with loud exhaust! I hot-rodded around town for the next week or so showing off my pipes.

Now i have Flowmasters and like them even more, although i don't hot rod around town very much anymore :D
