Frame too rusty?
Hey all. Just curious if anyone's encountered a frame they wouldn't use or couldn't fix due to rust on a 67-72 truck? The reason I ask is that I'm hoping to start work on mine '69 soon but I wonder how often the frames rot right out.
Many thanks, Greg |
The 71 I used to have had bad frame rot from around where the rear coils mount to the twisted ends where a rear bumper used to be. I can post a few quick pics when I get home if you want.

Jay; a pic would be good to see if it'snot a hassle.
Are you using that frame now? Do you trust it? I think mine's in pretty good shape, I'm just curious if there's a high rate of rotten frames around. Thanks Greg |

Here's a couple pics of the frame. I'm not using it, I had the truck hauled away and someone else took it from the shop that hauled it for me, so I have no idea what happened to it. I definitely wouldn't have trusted it as is, and if I would have used it I think I would have built new frame rails from the cab back, definitely a large, expensive project. This truck had been sitting under some pine trees for 12 years before I got it, thats probably why it was so rusted.
Look closely where I circled. You should notice a good chunk of the frame missing. |

holy crap! I wouldn't trust that either; I'm gonna have a good look under mine but I don't think it was that far gone last time I looked
Thanks for the pics Greg |
I have a '74 LWB frame that I will have no need for hopefully soon and if you can use it IT's yours. You pick-up.
Thanks |
