Anybody watch Horsepower TV over the weekend?
 

Basically they took a small block engine and modified it to give 672 hp from the engine. I don't remember the details b/c I can't remember the numbers, but the cylinders were so big they had to raise the camshaft, and hence a lot of specialty stuff was involved. The whole idea was that the engine could be used as a daily driver not racing. I thought it was hilarious. But I was impressed with the amount of hp they got out of a small block.

Yeah, I saw it, but that was ridiculous. EVERYTHING was custom, that engine would be so ridiculously expensive, I'd rather have either a less powerful and more reliable engine, or a more powerful, less reliable engine than that!

And if anything goes wrong on it, good luck getting replacement parts!!!

that small block was awesome!! if i remember it was 472 cubic inches and made 675 hp and 625 fp tq. the coolest part was that it looked like a simple 350 with a tall deck. it would be so awesome to beat a big block then open the hood and their jaws drop hahaha

472 cubic inches. That thing was pretty nasty. I would say it s gonna go for about $12000.

you can build a 454 ci small block with out needing alot of one off parts. the next motor i plan to build will be a 400 sbc bored and stroked to around 454 ci using an aftermarket dart block with splayed 4 bolt mains. the cam is still in the standard location with this way and it accepts all standard sbc parts. of course his will be after i get a degree and a good job waaaaay in the future:D

i had read some where that going more than around 450 cubes with a small block is not very advantageous because the external deminsions of a small block head will just not allow for the heads to have large enough ports to flow the needed air

The Horsepower TV engine was built by Scott Shafiroff Race Engines and Components (www.shafiroff.com), a very well known name in drag racing.

His web site doesn't yet have the 472 listed, but a 595 horsepower 434 cubic inch small block Chevrolet retails for $8995 (assembled, but less carb and ignition). Turn-key, pump gas power, baby! :D :D :D
