For The Mechanics

Took my 77 out today and it ran fine with no trouble but when I was pulling into my garage ( this was my lucky day it happened there ) it started to sputter and then died .I then turned it over a few times but it would not fire and thinking it was the fuel pump (tank is full ) I primed the carb but this time it would not even turn over , just a click when the key was turned ( it has a new battery and the headlights were strong ) I let it sit for a few min then tried it again and this time it turned over but did not fire . I primed the carb once more but it just kept turning over with out catching at all , then after 4 or 5 tries it started and is running fine again . Would the nuteral switch on the clutch do this ? What electrical point could kill the engine and then make it turn over "intermittingly " both at the same time , maybe the ignition switch ? Any other ideas ?

I suspect your ignition switch is going bad if the battery has a full charge and you know you are getting fuel/spark normally.

I would look at the wire going from the solenoid on the starter to the HEI cap. A member on another board had that same problem and changed that wire out then fixed it.
