used 350 engine value ?
OK, question...
I am unhappily considering the sale of a rebuilt 350 engine (with 35K miles on it) from the 1970 LWB I parted out in the fall. My current engine in my 1971 LWB runs strong and does not smoke, so other than wanting it to tinker with I really don't need it. So what is the value on such an item? I am only asking so I can determine whether or not to let it go...and CRY! boo-hoo-hoo in Sacramento Jeff |
I will give $150 for it..

I don't know about what you pay for 350's on the west coast, but I live in New York, and I buy them all day long for $100 complete, wether they run or not. We usually buy two or three a month to rebuild, and their real plentiful around here. Just my two cents worth. Good Luck selling yours

Put it in the peddlers post (or what every you have there). If the engine is clean and runs good then ask about $350 or so for it because this engine is not a junkyard engine you will be able to get close to that (people associate junkyard engines with ??). If you are able to let it run in front of someone you might get more, but it depends on how it runs and looks. I just sold my complete 350 (with 50,000 miles) to a friend for $300. I wouldn’t go any less than $250, I know this sounds meager, but 350’s are so common and can be bought brand new for so little that it is hard to get any money for them. I hope this helps you in your selling of it.

It's obviously different in various sections fo the country. 350's are hard to come by here. The guy we put in the ZZ4 for sold the 350 that came out as a builder for 350.00. I just called my friend with a GM only salvage yard, and doesn't have a CHEVY 350 now, builder or otherwise. Lots of Olds and Buicks, but no Chevys.

1971 2wd,
Thanks for the offer, I am sending you a PM. And everyone else, thanks for the input, exactly what I was looking for... Maybe a bit more input if anyone has any? What exactly is complete in terms of an engine? I'm thinking that I'd remove the starter, exhaust manifolds and possibly the coil and distributor. Is this typically what one would purchase, the whole thing from the manifold/valve covers to the oil pan? less? more? I don't have the carb, it was gone when I bought the truck. I don't know what to do, but I am thinking and the info helps. Thanks! |
I bought a 350 from an 82 Chevy van that was complete and runnign for $350. Then decided to tear it down and rebuild it. So I would say anywhere between $200 and $400 for a recently rebuilt engine
|
I'd say anywhere from 0 -$300. I just got a 350 with 800mi on it for free and got offered a SBC 400 for $300. Half price day at Pic & Pull is $169 fan to flex plate. As to what is a complete engine, I say everything it takes to run except power to starter and dizzy, otherwise its a long block JMHO.

Around here a good 350 like you have would go between 300-400
dollars without the accessories that you are thinking of pulling. When the history is not known then the price will be around $150-200. Jim |
:bowtie:
I'VE SOLD QUITE A FEW GOOD RUNNING, NON-SMOKING OR LEAKING 350s FOR BETWEEN $350 & $450 HERE IN NEVADA. I ALWAYS LEAVE THEM IN THE TRUCK TILL SOLD TOO SO THE POTENSIAL BUYER CAN SEE & HEAR THEM RUN. IF YOU WANT TO DO SOME SWAPPING, ( IF IT INDEED HAS ONLY 35000 MILES ON IT) ( I HAVE NO USE FOR A CORE MOTOR;) ) DROP ME A LINE AT FK9U812@AOL.COM AS I'M JUST OVER THE HILL IN CARSON CITY:D JOHN |
junkyardjohn...yeah, that would be OK, but I am thinking of selling it for the cash...so swapping would confuse the wife (and might create a little RAGE too), thanks for the offer though!
This is also good to know, so if I do sell it and need to replace mine one day, I now have an idea of what I may have to spend. Ya'all are great! |
In Missouri, a salvage yard would rape you on a motor like that and proably charge $500-$600 for a low-mileage motor like that.
I was with a friend looking for a 350, all the yards wanted to charge him around $500 for TBI 350's with like 180,000 miles on them  |
