Need some wiring help guys
I hope you 73-87 experts can help me out
I have an 82 Chevy 350 engine in my 72. I haven't fired it yet because it still needs to be wired up. I used to have a 250 inline 6 , so the wiring is totally different. It's a bare bones engine with and HEI. Does anyone have an engine wiring diagram for this engine? |
Any electric options on the engine? If not, its pretty much give 12 volts to the HEI, then 12 volts to the starter and she'll run
|
yeah but where does the power to the alternator come from? All my wiring is for a 72 inline 6. The alternator on the inline is on the drivers side and this one is on the passenger side. I have never done much engine wiring in the past.
Does anyone have a pic of their starter with all the wires connected that they could edit and show where the wires from the strater go to? |
Hmm, not sure about the alternator... My truck is outside in the parking lot, nor will the teacher let me go outside, otherwise I'd go figure it out for you...

Power comes from the battery to the starter solenoid. Positive wire goes to a junction block (73-87) on the firewall and then goes into the fusebox. That is the switched power wire. Is this what you need?
|
Alternators could be in either side -- mine is on the drivers side. It depends on if you have a short or a long water pump. And power doesn't go TO the alternator ;)

yeah I got that part, but where does the power for the alternator come from?

I don't have a diagram here in front of me, but I'll look when I get home where the red wire on the alternator goes. I think that's what you're asking. Brian |
yeah, thats what I'm asking bud. Just need to know where that wire does to

The larger red wire on the alternator (post) goes to the + terminal on the battery , to charge the battery and the small red wire (connector) goes to the ignition switch Via the junction block , a thermistor or fuseable link required on that one and the brown wire (connector) goes to the voltage gauge
CORRECTION - Sorry, but I just found out from another thread that I am not completly right on what I posted above , It seems the brown wire goes to the ignition switch and the small red , "well " I don't know I have to find out my self . |
