:( Steering Column broke, can I repair or replace?

Tonight when I went out to start my truck to go get gas, I noticed that I COULD NOT turn the key to start the truck, but I COULD move the shifter. Park and Reverse were easily accesible, while the rest were HARD to pull it into. Then, I heard the heater running, which obviously meant that it thinks the key is in the RUN position. Any ideas how I go about fixing this? Do I need an entirely new column, or just an ignition key cylinder?
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Sounds like time to replace the ignition. Pretty easy job with a steering wheel puller. Also look here for the procedure. While you're there you might as well tighten and locktite the bolts he did as well. http://home.t-online.de/home/O_Scholz/steering.html

Tim;

The rack that drives the rod to the ignition switch on the lower part of the column may be broken or binding. You will have to disassemble the column to check it. If you have a manual, it is an easy job if you have the correct tools.

I would pull the ignition cylinder and you can see what dswancutt is talking about. You can look where the ignition goes in and see if it looks okay or not.
