tilt column question
Did any 73-87 GM trucks equipped with manual floor shift transmissions come equipped with tilt columns from the factory?
I am assuming they did, but have had no luck finding one. I am converting to floor shift and want to lose the column shift provision. Any ideas on where to look besides E-bay? Any companies out there that specialize in columns for our trucks? I have a perfect working, auto tilt column I would be willing to trade if anyone has one. :) Thanks. |
Yes they were available. They weren't common, but were available. The two guys (GM*tilt & steeringcolumnologist) that are offering rebuilt cloumns are asking a small fortune for them though. Keep your eye on Ebay. They come up every so often that need to be rebuilt...

my truck has a floor shift column w/tilt....payed a 100.00 for it...
guess i got a deal:eek: |
In the near future im going to a pick and pull yard in PA if i go there and find one ill pull it for you and it will cost you my cost plus shipping. I cannot guarantee that it will not need to be rebuilt tho or even if they will have one when i go. If you score one please let me know tho so i dont get you one after you dont need it!

rolson1039, I am definately interested...thanks!
I will let you know if I find one first. :) Thanks again. |
i have your column needs under control! i bought my tilt column from the steeringcolumnologist on ebay... he's located in the middle of PA and is exactly what his user name says. i can't recall totally, but i believe i paid $125 for a reconditioned column complete with all new switches, turnsignal switch, ignition tumbler, and levers... the column was media blasted and painted OEM black... the column looked like it came out of a brand new vehicle and its tigher than the column in my 2000 daily driver.
HIGHLY recommended. his user name on ebay: http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...&since=-1&rd=1 Jeff, let me know what you do how's the resto comin' ??? |
75stepside, you were fortunate enough to have bought from Randy (steeringcolumnologist) before things got crazy on Ebay. I didn't know he sold them for 125.00 but he did offer a "buy it now" option at 149.00 for a long time. That was before bidding got crazy on these things.
These days Randy or Wayne (GM*tilt) do not offer a buy it now feature. I can't blame them for that since the bidders have driven the market up.... |
75stepside...thanks for the link...unfortunately he is not selling one at the moment. I would love to find one! I will keep looking, till then, if anyone sees or hears of one please let me know! :)
The resto... Well, I just purchased $100 in paints and dyes from Eastwood for the interior and brake components...they should be here late this week, early next. I also am wrapping up installing the Brown Bread in the cab. Windows go in next, then trim and wiring. The front sheetmetal will be all finished by early May, then the bed gets attention. The truck might be in one piece and driveable by fall...I only hope! |
Jeff, email the seller! when i bought my column he did not have any up either... but, it took him about a week to get one completed... email him if you are interesting in buying now... he'll take care of you...
oh, my project goes into the booth next week!!! i did my final block down and wetsanding this past weekend... i cannot wait!!! take care, Rodney:cool: |
