Follow up to Seattle trip

I took everything apart and the timing chain was tight. Maybe it was bad gas?

Anyway, I'm about to but evething back together. A local mechanic said to spray a bunch of brake cleaner below the timing chain where the oil goes back into the pan to clean out any junk that went in while cleaning the area for the gasket. Then he said to rund the garden hose in there to further flush stuff out. Spray it down with wd40, set overnight then close it up and fill with oil.

Call me crazy but I don't thing spraying water into any part of the engine that requires oil sounds like a bad idea.

...I don't know if I like that idea either. Normally I'd seal that off so stuff wouldn't get in there, but now that that's water under the bridge I'd just pull the pan and clean it, reseal it, but that's just me...

Me too

I was thinking the same thing. I've never taken one off but it will be a good opportunity to clean it up.

Water in the pan sound's like a bad idea but that's just my 2 cent's ... I would just do as cobalt said and drop the pan unless it's in the truck still that could be a real pain in the a$$...

The engine is still in the truck.
