Pull out the tank with the help of a friend, dump it into some clear containers. Class or ceramic mixing bowls are great, the gas wahes off of them real wasy.
The reason I say to do that, once you see all the ca-ca floating in the fuel, you won't dare pour it into a new tank.
As for disposal of your old tank, you could let it air out a few days and try throwing it out, but they probably won't take it.
Call a radiater shop, ask what they would do with it.
