The Saginaw tranny was used in Many years of High Performance G.M. Vehicles, Made by G.M.
Some Muncies are heftier, others are about the same..
This tranny will go well behind everything but the strongest built motors. and the roughest of users.... any tranny can be busted with Abuse.. I am running right at 400 H.P ( guestimation) and I bought it to run behind it.. But I'm not Lead Footed any longer. I ran one behind a stock 375 HP 396 ( I had headers and an Aftermarket Manifold and Carb. 4:11 Gears W/posi. ) way back when.... I never had a problem with it. And I wasn't real easy on it.
This tranny is tight in the gears, and has No Chipped or worn teeth.... It also has a tight input shaft bearing.. It shows no sign of abuse.. Just outside case dirt....
Also, There is 2 different gear Ratios for the G.M. Saginaw
1st:3.11, 2nd:2.20,3rd1.47, 4th 1.00---
The other is,
1st:2.85, 2nd:2.02, 3rd:1.35, 4th:1.00
I don't remember which this one is, If it matters, I can figure it out...
I was going to go 4-spd. in mine but since have decided to stay with my 350 Turbo, and a Stall Convertor. Unless later I go to a 5 or 6 Speed...
