dont the oil filter mount have a by-pass? if it was a bad filter wouldnt the oil just by-pass the filter? I went with synthetic and it lowered the oil pressure, not as dramatically as you stated, but as it heated up it got worse. did you drop the pan? almost sounds like you moved the pickup.
