About the only adjustmant (which probably won't help you) that can be made is to the fitting with the jam nut on the transducer, its the fitting with the vacuum hose on it. That adjustment only affects the set speed, meaning if you set it at 60mph and it cruises at 58 you turn the fitting out a 1/2 turn per mph until it cruises where you set it. You may want to check your throttle spring, if its been replaced with a heavier than normal spring (which happens alot) it will make the cruise system work harder to overcome spring tension.
I have cruise in my 71 and it sure is sweet to go down the road at 65mph while tapping my RIGHT foot to the beat of AM talk radio! :p
