I used that bolt-in notch w/o any issues & towed my car trailer. After I started towing more often, I decided to go ahead & weld it in for xtra strength. My truck doesn't lay frame but is dropped between 7-8" in the back. If you have access to a welder, then the round pipe & plate method is cheaper. But, if you want to get it done @ home & don't have a welder, the bolt-in works fine. If done right, the pipe/plate would look better IMO.
