35's are TOTALLY fine with 1/2 ton gear, even if you wheel hard. Whoever is telling you otherwise is being over cautious.

I think 35's are really the cutoff point; Anything beyond, and perhaps 3/4 ton gear should be a consideration. However, the D44/12 bolt/NP205 are a stout combination.

I am running 38's on 1/2 ton gear, I have run 37's on a late model 1/2 ton IFS, and I ran 39s on my 82 with 10 bolts and a 208 and 3.08s (at least had an SM465 though)! Transfer case eventually went out, but that was it.

Unless you put a high horse/torque engine in it and/or hardcore wheel, I think you will be fine with what you have, and others will agree with me.

D44 + 12 bolt + NP205 + 35's + 3.73s = AOK
