I agree , that 292 should have GOBS of torque. Gearing is probably "holdin you back" . As for small blocks, 327s are neat , but if you can find a 350, parts to rebuild are much less . Northern has complete kits ( pistons, bearings, rings, cam, oil pump, etc. ,etc.) for around $225- 250 delivered to your door!
