I used a 1988 lwb. I set the bed on the frame, and had to raise the cab to meet it. It looks lifted, but it's all body lift. I left the entire drive train stock. It's still in progress, but everything on the body will also be stock.
Here are some pics. The side view of the truck outside is what it looked like when I started.
