I've got doestch shocks on my '69 and it is a rough and bouncy ride. Tires and springs are huge factors in the ride. You're probaby going to get a little less bounce out of the 16 wheels (less side wall). Also, the stiffness of the side wall can change the ride a lot too.

There is a guy with a Jimmy for sale near my house (it's a $2000 truck he wants $10,500 for - it's been for sale for about a year and a half) and he has 38's with 6" of lift. He said, and based on the lack of clearance I believe him, that there is barely any suspension travel, most of the bump absorbtion is in the side walls of the tires.
